Internet Filtering:
Our district uses WatchGuard Internet filtering service district wide. All computers are set to access the Internet only by going through the filtering server. This will restrict access to sites our students shouldn’t be going to. School districts are required by law to filter under the Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA). School computer lab personnel and librarians have override capabilities if the filter limits access to sites that are necessary for student work.
Please remember that Internet filtering is just one tool provided by our district to help staff when using the Internet with their students. Cape Elizabeth School District employs a four-part plan to protect our students from the risks that can be associated with Internet use in our schools.
These four parts include:
1. Training for our staff
2. Supervision of students using the Internet
3. A filtering system
4. A board policy on Student Computer/Internet use (See below).
